Here's what it's all about!
This newsletter, I mean. Not, you know, existentially speaking... (Awesome artwork inside)
Welcome! Before I get into what this Newsletter is all about…
Here are some awesome creators doing awesome sh*t!
Dave Cook & co. - Kickstarter for ‘BPM: Beatdowns Per Minute #1’, An action-packed comic tribute to retro beat 'em up games, starring two martial arts cops fighting a crime Syndicate in 1993.
Madeleine Holly-Rosing & co. - Kickstarter for ‘Boston Metaphysical Society: The Ghost Ship Audio Drama’
Ruben Romero & co.- Kickstarter for ‘The Illusion Witch Book Three’ - The Illusion Witch Book Three plunges Aadya into the magical world of Saari. Once there she will quickly learn this is no fairytale.
So, here's what it's all about!
I recently moved my newsletter here from another platform. Some of this is copied from my last “Farewell Mailer Lite” newsletter so that I can introduce myself and my goals here on SubStack.
A huge part of what I want to use this newsletter for is to put out those creative vibes. It’ll hopefully introduce you to some amazing creators and projects you may not have heard of, and dive deeper into the art of creating comics.
Comic Book Writers on Writing
In the last year or so I'd started branching out of my comfort zone by creating a YouTube podcast where I talk shop with other writers. I was inspired to do so because, well, any time creators pull the curtains back and dive deep into their craft, I'm all ears! I find it incredibly inspiring.
Their art doesn't necessarily even matter! They can be directors, screenwriters, artists, or even even chefs. It's the passion with which they speak, and the simple act of them discussing their industry and their process of creating, that I find motivating and insightful.
That's what made me want to start the Writing Comics channel and the Comic Book Writers on Writing pod, where I get to talk to so many amazing creators about everything that goes into the art of writing comics and putting them out into the universe. We give advise & tips on topics ranging from where to start, to the craft itself, the business side, crowdfunding, collaborating, and everything in between. I’m gonna post those chats here and try to dive a little deeper into some of the topics.
We also continue the conversation over on the Writing Comics Discord server if you’re interested.
Indie Comics Shout-out!
Or, “Awesome creators doing awesome sh*t!”, as seen at the beginning of this newsletter. I’m not sure which title will stick!
We’re in the golden age of creator owned comic books. There’s such great content being made by comic book creators who aren’t working for any of the major publishers out there. Some of the most creative people alive right now are out there writing, drawing, coloring, and lettering indie and small press comics.
These folks are busting their asses day-in and day-out, unapologetically chasing down their dreams and telling the stories that they want to tell. They’re not waiting for permission. They’re not waiting for a publisher to give them their stamp of approval. They’re going for it! And it’s inspiring as f**k!
That’s all for me. You can subscribe to the newsletter below.
See you around!
